Wusage 8.0 ManualSoftware and Hardware RequirementsWhat hardware do I need to run Wusage?Wusage requires at least 32 megabytes of available RAM to perform useful analysis of a web server. More popular web servers will require more memory. Of course, virtual memory can be used.Wusage is available for most operating systems and computers. What software do I need to run Wusage?If you have one of the supported versions of Unix, Windows 95, 98 or NT, or MacOS, all you need is access to the logs produced by your web server. These logs can be in any of several standard formats.To generate the optional but extremely valuable Navigation Graph, you will also need optional free software. For more information about appropriate web server log formats, see the Server Configuration Tips section. If your web server is run for you by an ISP, the ISP must provide you with access to the log files, or at least to the portion of those log files that relates to your web pages. Wusage cannot do anything useful without a source of data! The acceptable log file formats are known as the "common" log file format (most servers output this), the "combined" log format (a popular extension of the common log format), the EMWAC log file format (some versions of the EMWAC server for Windows NT output this), the Microsoft IIS log file format, the "extended log format" defined by the W3C and implemented by Microsoft IIS 4.0, and the WebStar log format used on the Macintosh. Wusage recognizes certain variations on the common log format, including at least one variation produced by the Oracle web server. Additional fields after the regular "common log format" fields are also acceptable, and Wusage can analyze these if they are formatted properly; see the Server Configuration Tips section for more information. Wusage will also support other web server log formats if there is a demand for them. Feel free to contact us if you have a need for other formats.
