Description

If this option is turned on and the optional, free graphviz and ghostscript programs are installed correctly, the Navigation Graph (Site Map) (navigation) option creates a report revealing the true browsing habits of typical users. This report is created in Portable Document Format (PDF format). To take advantage of this report, you will need a PDF viewer, such as the freely available, easily installed Adobe Acrobat Reader. Because of the tremendous amount of useful information presented, the graph occupies four printed pages. It is best to print out the report and give it your full attention.

To create the graph, Wusage determines the most frequent transitions from page to page. For instance, each time a user moves from your home page to another page within your site, that is one page transition. Wusage calculates the top 50 page transitions (this figure can be changed), which become the arrows in the site navigation graph. These arrows connect rectangles which represent the actual pages on the site.

The thickest arrows indicate the most popular page transitions. An interpretation key is included in the graph. This key indicates how many actual page transitions are represented by each arrow. Note that since only the top 50 page transitions are shown and not all visitors make a transition between two pages, these figures are not expected to add up to the overall accesses or visits to your site as a whole.

Note that only URLs that represent actual pages are included in this report. This is because Wusage considers only URLs of the pages object type. If you find that the graph does not include URLs that you consider to be appropriate, the definition of this object type can be changed. For more information about object types, see the Object Types section of the manual. The Navigation Graph (Site Map) (documents) option defaults to on if graphviz and ghostscript are installed on the system.

THIS FEATURE REQUIRES THAT ADDITIONAL FREE SOFTWARE BE INSTALLED. The graphviz and ghostscript packages are required. They are very easy to install. For more information, see the optional software section of the manual.
