If you prefer to manually edit your configuration files, use the following syntax for this option:

referrersbydocument on
referrersbydocument off

If turned on, the Chart Top Referring URLs by Document ^{(referrersbydocument)} option indicates that wusage should output information about the referring URLs which led users to each document on the server. For this reason, the Chart Top Referring URLs by Document ^{(referrersbydocument)} option is both very informative and rather demanding of disk space. You may wish to use the Chart Top Referring URLs ^(referrers) report instead if you do not want a fairly large report to be generated.

If the Chart Top Referring URLs by Document ^{(referrersbydocument)} option is set, and referring URL information is present in the server log, then links to a list of referring documents will be generated next to each mention of any document in the Chart Top Documents ^(documents) and Chart Documents by Directory ^{(directories)} reports. In order to keep the size of the report manageable, these links point to the appropriate section of a separate browser window which displays the complete list of referrers.

To further limit the size of the resulting report, the How Many Referring URLs by Document? ^{(topreferrersbydocument)} option is provided to limit the number of referring URLs listed for each document. It is also strongly advisable to use the Ignored Referring URLs ^{(ignorereferrers)} option to filter out uninteresting referring documents, such as documents on the same server.
