Deep gray and steel with traces of heather toning. Hints of lighter silver surfaces are visible through the toning. The fields are considerably reflective. An outstanding example with only a few very minor blemishes. Very sharp central details.

This example apparently qualifies as "Overton-123 prime" and is extremely rare as such. Steve Herrman suggested that this die state is probably Rarity-7 with only five or six examples known to him. Only a couple examples have been offered recently, with just one coin of this die state reported by Herrman.

Perfect obverse die with only the patch of die lines left of the date. The reverse has no trace of the corrugated imprint described by Overton. Light die cracks connect the tops of UNITE, STATE, and MERIC.

Purchased August 6, 1999 at the ANA Convention. Ex Donald Gunnett, Henry Hilgard, Sheridan Downey.
