Slightly reflective fields with gray, orange, lilac, and blue toning. Certainly cleaned and naturally retoned. Sharply defined, especially on the reverse, with full borders on both sides. The obverse border is thin at lower right although complete. This is among the very finest known of this rare marriage.

When Don Parsley prepared his census for the third edition of Overton, he recorded the top five known to him as 55, 55, 55, 55, 50. As Russ Logan had acquired this coin long before, we must assume it is one of those five coins. Steve Herrman recorded 19 auction appearances with one listed as MS-60 (based on the catalogue grade) and the next finest to appear in auction considered just EF-45.

The reverse has nearly invisible clash marks and a very faint die crack through the tops of UNITED.

Purchased October 20, 1982 from Jeff Friedman.
