This variety is from the same reverse also used for 1827 O-108. This is a remarrige with the emission sequence 1827 O-108, 1828 O-101, 1827 O-108, 1828 O-101.

Total mintage of half dollars for 1828 was recorded as 3,075,200 coins consisting of 23 die marriages from 13 obverse and 19 reverse dies. Date fonts include Curl Base Pointed Top 2's, Curl Base Knobbed Top 2's, and Square Base Knobbed Top 2's. These latter coins were combined with either large or small 8's. Therefore, four distinct major varieties exist. This series includes two rare varieties and two scarce varieties.

The Logan Collection included 29 coins bearing this date and representing all 23 varieties. Two examples each are presented for O-105 and O-123.
