Triple Struck. The obverse has two distinct and very heavy arcs of dentils as well as traces of other design elements. For instance, the top edge of Liberty's cap from one strike may be seen across her neck and cheek, with remants of the forecurl and bridge of her nose visible on the border between stars 2 and 3. Parts of shield and right wing visible at STATES OF and scroll, olive leaves and berry above ITE.

Some other half dollars in this collection have what Russell Logan had described as "dentil tracks" and we tried to explain this phenomenon as being similar to the dropped letter error, however, now we are more inclined to believe as Russ Logan did that these are signs of minor double striking. This is clearly an area that needs substantial additional research and discussion.
