Cleaned and scratched with brilliant silver surfaces, now with lovely bright blue and iridescent toning at the borders, especially on the obverse. Although each viewer will arrive at a different conclusion, we suggest a net grade in the range of F-15 is appropriate. This is a rare die combination that retains its Rarity-5 rating given by Donald Parsley in 1990. When the 1970 second edition of Overton was published, this marriage was considered Rarity-6.

There are no die cracks or clash marks on either side, however, by the time this example was struck, the obverse die was in the process of severe failure in the form of die sinking that creating a large bulge at lower left. Such die defects are most often given the name "die bulge" although it is actually just the opposite. The coinage die is starting to sink or collapse, creating the raised area on the coin.
