A pleasing example of this overdate variety with mostly bright silver surfaces and considerable lustre. Light blue and iridescent toning is confined the peripheral elements. Although very lightly coined, this example is sure to please.

Fourteen obverse and 13 reverse dies were used to produce 15 varieties for the year. Total coinage was 2,208,000 half dollars. This production represented the 16th lowest in the series, a correction from the figure reported in Overton, third edition. This is another year for the beginning collector to consider. Four of the obverse dies were overdated with a total of six overdate varieties. Two of these overdate varieties are listed as Rarity-4, the only two scarce die marriages for the entire year. The Logan Collection includes 18 coins bearing this date, representing all 15 die marriages. One of these has an unlettered edge, the planchet not being fed through the Castaing machine prior to minting.

Perfect obverse. The reverse has a very fine die crack from the olive leaves through tops of UNITED ST.
