Deep steel and grayish brown surfaces with slightly lighter devices. Splashes of iridescent toning are noted on both sides. A thin scratch crosses the cap. A scarce variety.

Despite extensive obverse die cracks, this appears to be an early die state for the variety. The first crack described by Overton, through stars at left, is not visible on this example.

From Lester Merkin's sale of the Overton Collection, June 15, 1974.
