Unlettered edge. Slightly larger than standard diameter at 33.4 mm. Both obverse and reverse have very wide borders resembling today's broadstruck error. This is a lovely example with satiny lustre beneath gray and gold toning, lighter on the reverse, with attractive iridescent splashes. The reverse has a depression above the eagle's neck, appearing as a type of struck through error.

Just three unlettered edge coins are offered in the current sale, all that Russ Logan was able to acquire. Just a single example is recorded by Herrman in his section on appearances of error coins. Such coins are of considerable rarity and extremely important to the specialist or the error collector.

Late die state with a die crack at lower reverse. Heavy obverse and reverse clash marks.

Purchased October 14, 2000 from Henry Hilgard. Ex Elton Dosier.
