Medium grayish brown surfaces with pale blue and light gold toning. A highly attractive example with only a few very minor abrasions and hairline scratches. Although with slight central weakness, this is a well centered impression with sharp peripheral details. An important type issue with small obverse stars.

This variety is listed first in the emission sequence developed by Ivan Leaman and Donald Gunnet. This is also the only obverse die not exhibiting John Reich's trademark scalloped star 13. This obverse is quite possibly the very first die engraved by John Reich for this denomination.

Intermediate die state between O-113 and 113a.

Light obverse and reverse clash marks. The obverse has a very light die crack from bust to stars 1 and 2 only. The reverse die has the first die crack for O-113a, but not the second.

From David Akers' sale of the Pittman Collection, May 1998, Lot 1453. Earlier from Jim Charlton, August 20, 1952.
