| Natural medium gray surfaces with hints of blue and iridescent toning. The devices are generally lighter gray. A few minor abrasions are noted. Although the primary emphasis of Russ Logan's half dollar collection was the series of Capped Bust coins, he had acquired a number of nice early half dollars, including all four varieties of 1803. Total coinage according to Mint records included 31,715 coins struck in 1803 and 156,519 struck in 1804. Although there are no records by die variety, it is certainly possible that this first variety made up the coins actually minted in 1803.Very light clash marks are visible on the reverse. |
