Attractive light gray surfaces with considerable pale gold toning. A few very minor abrasions are noted. This is the first year of issue for the new Heraldic Eagle reverse design. Recorded mintage totaled 30,289 coins, and as the first issue since those dated 1797, is almost certainly the actual mintage for coins bearing this date.

Perfect obverse. The reverse has several die lumps as described in the Overton reference. We do not see any evidence of die cracks or clash marks.

Purchased June 1988 from Gerald Schertz.
