Flip-over Double Struck. The first strike was approximately 30% off-center at 12:00. Deep gray with darker steel toward the borders. A few light scratches and scrapes are noted. Evidence of the first strike is noted on both sides. On the obverse, remnants of the initial strike are primarily visible along the border. Following the obverse border counterclockwise from star 3, traces of the upper left serif of U, wing tip, upper pair of olive leaves, eagle's feathers, and shield stripes may be seen. Below 183 of the date may be seen additional feathers from the right wing, with part of the M in AMERICA visible below the digit 5.

On the reverse of the final impression may be seen remnants from LIBERTY above ST with part of star 12 directly above the final S. Other trivial details from the first strike are seen.
