This year provided the high water mark for production of dimes with a mintage of 1,410,000 coins. Among 1835 dimes, nine varieties have been identified from four obverse and eight reverse dies. It is believed that many bearing the 1835 date were actually produced in 1836 and perhaps even as late as 1837. Two of the obverse dies have a fancy 8 date while the other two feature the block 8 style. Only one die marriage, JR-7, is rare with just two others considered scarce. Five of the nine varieties are listed as either Rarity-1 or 2. This is the first obverse die use before JR-2 and JR-3, and the only use of the reverse die. Perfect obverse and reverse dies.
Purchased January 1981 at a Parma, Ohio coin show.
