Deep steel blue with a scratch on Liberty's neck. The obverse has peripheral rose while the reverse has light amber at the borders. Traces of lustre are visible. This variety was originally considered Rarity-5 in the Dime Book, however, quite a number of examples have been located in the intervening 18 years.

This is the second obverse die use after JR-1 and before JR-3. The reverse was only used for this die marriage.

The obverse has a crack from drapery through inner points of stars 1 through 3, continuing more lightly to star 5. A short branch joins star 1 to the border. Digit 3 is closed by a die crack with a small die chip inside the lower curve. The reverse has a very short crack from leaf to rim. Another crack joins the tops of MERI with a crack through the bases of these same letters.

Purchased September 1987 at a Cleveland, Ohio coin show.
