Very sharply struck with slightly reflective fields. A few very minor abrasions and small edge bruises are noted. Light gray with deeper steel toning along the borders. This is a rare variety with just two finer coins listed in the Dime Census. In 1984, the Dime Book authors noted that the finest they had seen was just VF-25. Obviously, some higher grade examples have been discovered since, including this coin. The example in the Lovejoy Collection was NGC graded MS-62 and the Subjack Collection coin was Choice Uncirculated. In addition, a Proof example is known.

The only obverse die use. This is the second use of the reverse die after 1833 JR-1 early state, and before 1832 JR-6 and 1833 JR-1 late state.

The obverse is completely bisected by a die crack from the border at 11:30 to the border at 5:00. The reverse appears perfect.

Purchased March 1996 from Jerry Wysong at a Cleveland, Ohio coin show.
