Illustrated in the John Reich Dime Book, page 198. Fully lustrous with deep golden rose toning along the borders. Sharply struck and extremely attractive. Graded "Choice Brilliant Uncirculated" by Stack's in the Lovejoy catalogue. Just one other Mint State example is recorded in the Dime Census. The Eliasberg coin was a gem quality example and two or three others exist in Mint State. As this variety was struck after JR-6, and we have demonstrated that JR-6 was struck in 1833 (per the previous lot), this die marriage was obviously also struck in 1833.

This is the fourth use of the obverse die after 1832 JR-3, JR-4, and JR-6. First use of the reverse die before 1833 JR-4.

Upper and lower knobs of 3 are joined with a faint crack between tops of 83. Perfect reverse.

Previously certified MS-63 by NGC.

From Stack’s sale of the Lovejoy Collection, October 1990, Lot 129. From Stack’s, privately, December 5, 1983.
