Very faint hairlines are visible beneath grayish brown, green, and iridescent toning. The reverse is lighter gray with iridescent toning. Subdued lustre is visible beneath the toning. The finest example in the Dime Census. Although the authors of the Dime Book noted none in Mint State, one or two such examples have been located, including the Lovejoy example.

This is the second use of each die. The obverse was earlier used for JR-2 while the reverse was first used for JR-4 and later for 1833 JR-3.

The obverse has die rust near Liberty's eye. A crack from the border over star 7 extends through the cap to border over star 8. Another crack is noted from star 12 to the lowest curl. The reverse has short cracks from border to top of second T and E in STATES. Another crack is visible from border to M. Two faint cracks join left wing to adjacent leaf tips.

From the November 1990 MSNS Convention Sale, Lot 1128.
