Reverse rotated clockwise 45°. Light gray surfaces with minor abrasions and a few old scratches. Traces of light gold toning follow the borders. This variety is considered very scarce although it is available in all grades through Mint State.

This is the only appearance of the obverse die. The reverse was used later for 1830 JR-8 and 1831 JR-1.

The obverse has a die crack through the lower ribbon into the field toward star 12. Perfect reverse.

Purchased at the 1990 ANA Convention in Seattle, Washington.
