Illustrated in the John Reich Dime Book, page 167. Grayish brown devices with exceptional blue, amber, and iridescent toning. The reverse is similar with more vibrant toning. Four small rim nicks are noted on the obverse. In the Lovejoy catalogue, Stack's described this as "Brilliant Uncirculated, or better." This is a very scarce variety with most examples known in lower grades. This example is clearly first out of 15 coins recorded in the Dime Census.

Second use of the obverse after JR-7 and first use of the reverse before 1830 JR-1.

The obverse has a very faint die crack connecting stars 8 through 11. The reverse has a very short crack connecting the lowest arrowhead to rim.

From Stack’s sale of the Lovejoy Collection, October 1990, Lot 103. Previously from Stack’s, privately, April 27, 1979.
