Brilliant with nearly full lustre and hints of light gold toning. An extremely attractive example of this scarce variety. Just this and one other were tied for finest in the Dime Census. This variety is generally found in grades from VF to AU. The "plate coin" for this variety in the Dime Book is represented by variety 12 for the obverse and variety 7 for the reverse.

This obverse was later used for JR-9 and JR-12. The reverse was used earlier for JR-7.

A faint die crack joins stars 6 and 7. The reverse has two cracks from different leaf tips, to the border and to the left wing tip. Other very faint cracks from rim to scroll through A of STATES, second T of STATES, and final S.

Purchased at the 1980 ANA Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio.
