Grayish brown devices with amber and iridescent toning. An extremely attractive example with some satiny lustre remaining. Somewhat weak central details, especially on the obverse. This is one of two common varieties for the year and is available in all grades including Proof. The present example is the finest listed in the Dime Census.

First use of the obverse die prior to JR-3. Only use of the reverse die.

The obverse has a faint die crack through the outer points of stars 11, 12, and 13. A very faint crack joins the bottoms of 25. Compare this to the obverse of JR-3, below, and consider these differences when examining the obverse brockage in the next lot. The reverse has light clash marks and a bulge through UNIT with another bulge at the denomination.

Purchased October 1986 at a New York coin show.
