A lovely example with bright gold, pale blue, and iridescent toning over grayish brown devices. Considerable lustre remains visible suggesting a higher grade. A faint scratch is visible on Liberty's cheek. Stack's graded this "About Uncirculated" and noted the comments of the Dime Book authors who stated that only two examples had been seen above EF-40. This is a rare variety that has retained its Rarity-5 rating since publication of the Dime Book in 1984. A total of 18 examples were recorded in the JRCS Dime Census with two finer than this.

Second obverse die use after JR-1. First reverse die use prior to JR-3 and 1827 JR-2.

A small obverse rim break joins two dentils at star 10. The reverse has very faint clash marks.

From Stack's sale of December 1992, Lot 1033. Ex William L. Subjack. Earlier from Stack's, privately, May 1986.
