Deep golden brown with peripheral blue and iridescent toning. Some lustre remains visible beneath the toning. A few very minor abrasions and hairlines are present. Slight weakness is noted on details of the eagle.

Stack's graded this About Uncirculated. Russ Logan recorded this in his copy of the Dime Book as AU-55 while listing the same example in the Dime Census as just EF-40. A scarce variety that may actually deserve a higher rarity rating. Just 14 examples are listed in the Dime Census with one finer than this.

The only obverse die use. The reverse was later used for 1823 JR-1.

Very faint obverse and reverse clash marks.

From Stack's sale of December 1992, Lot 1030. Ex William L. Subjack, Allen F. Lovejoy.
