Illustrated in the John Reich Dime Book, page 96. A lovely example with fully lustrous surfaces and very light hairlines. A thin scratch on Liberty's cheek extends from her mouth to hair curls in front of the ear. Relatively common and available in all grades through Mint State. This is the finest example listed in the Dime Census along with one other AU grade coin. Described by Stack's as "Brilliant Uncirculated" in both the Bareford and Lovejoy catalogues and described as "About Uncirculated and choice but for a pinscratch on the cheek" in the same firm's sale of May 1991.

This is the only use of the obverse die and the first use of the reverse die, later used for JR-9.

Perfect dies.

From Stack's sale of May 1991, Lot 385. Earlier from Stack's sale of the Lovejoy Collection, Lot 44; Stack's sale of the Bareford Collection, Lot 159; and B. Max Mehl's sale of the Allenburger Collection, March 1948, Lot 761.
