Highly attractive with fully lustrous surfaces and very light gold and pale gray toning. Sharply struck with strong central and peripheral details. This is a second variety from the Notched Stars obverse die. A scarce variety, although available in Mint State quality. Acquired after publication of the Dime Census. The finest example in that report was listed as AU-50.

Previously certified MS-62 by NGC.

This obverse die was first used with JR-5. This is the only use of the reverse die.

The obverse has a bulge affecting stars 2 through 5 with a reverse bulge through ITED. These two die defects are almost opposite each other, an unusual situation. The obverse has a very light die crack from border to lowest point of star 5.

From Heritage's sale of December 2000, Lot 6821.
