Grayish brown surfaces with traces of steel blue toning. A minor scratch is noted above Liberty's cap. This is a rare variety with the present example among the finer known. Just 12 examples were recorded in the Dime Census with one coin marginally finer than this. The population is second lowest of the year behind the very rare JR-12 variety.

This obverse die was earlier used for JR-1. The reverse die was used earlier with JR-3 and later with JR-5.

The obverse has very weak clash marks. Very weak die cracks from the border to stars 3, 4, and 5. Perfect reverse.

Purchased February 1993 at a Sandusky, Ohio coin show.
