Outstanding quality with light golden brown toning over ivory lustre. Slightly weak on the highest design points with additional weakness along the borders. The reverse border has some roughness at the edge of the coin. A scarce variety although available in all grades including Mint State. This reverse die was also used with an 1820 obverse. This is the finest example recorded in the Dime Census. In 1978, we described this as "Borderline Uncirculated."

This is the second use of the obverse die after JR-4 and first use of the reverse die. This reverse die was later used for 1820 JR-1.

Perfect dies.

From our sale of February 1978, Lot 281.
