Extremely attractive with soft, frosty lustre. Light gray with splashes of golden brown and iridescent toning. Exceptional surfaces. Very sharply struck although with some weak border dentils on each side. Slight weakness is noted on the high points of the design. This variety is relatively common with several Mint State examples known. This is the only Mint State example reported in the Dime Census.

This is the second use of the obverse die after JR-2 and first use of the reverse die prior to JR-4.

Light clash marks are visible on the obverse. Very slightly bulged at lower left obverse. The reverse has several die cracks within the shield. One of these extends up to the eagle's beak and to the scroll.

John McCloskey discussed bulges on these coins in Volume 6, Issue 3 of the Journal.
