Sharpness slightly finer. Light gray with porous surfaces. This is the only die variety of the year and is a scarce variety, although available in most grades. Mintage of this issue totaled 51,065 coins. This coinage was produced at various times from the first quarter of 1809 through the end of 1810.

With this issue begins the complete die variety collection of Capped Bust dimes formed by Russell Logan. To the best of our knowledge, this is only the second time that a complete collection of these coins has ever been offered for sale.

This is the only use of the obverse die. The reverse was later used for 1811 JR-1 dimes.

Late die state. A in STATES and the first A in AMERICA are each filled inside the upper element.
