A lovely example of this very elusive date. This example has considerable lustre visible beneath deep steel surfaces. Both obverse and reverse have bright blue, lilac, and golden rose toning. The fields are slightly reflective. A few light hairlines and other very minor abrasions are noted. Slightly weak at center of obverse and reverse. Five examples were recorded in the Dime Census with just one of these finer than this example. This die marriage is considerably rarer than the other known variety of this year.

This is the second use of the obverse die after 1801 JR-1 and the only use of the reverse die.

The obverse has heavy die defects (rust pits) while the reverse has several very fine die cracks as listed in the dime book.
