Very lightly cleaned (as are most early silver dollars surviving today) with light gray surfaces and faint traces of toning along the borders. An early die state with light die cracks and clash marks, known as Bolender-16a, as discussed below.

The obverse has light clash marks above the date, at the bust tip, and over Liberty's head. A die crack from the border curves through bust, then extends vertically across Liberty's neck to her cheek. The reverse has very light clash marks. This is equivalent to die state III in our Silver Dollar Encyclopedia.
