A lustrous example with brilliant silver surfaces and lovely iridescent toning along the borders. The Logan Collection coin was recorded as just VG-10, obviously not this example. Although considered a common variety, this die marriage is extremely difficult to locate in higher grades. This variety begins a long sequence of interconnected die marriages through the end of the series. Only one variety, 1836 B-3, is not connected in the emission sequence. The present variety shares an obverse with 1835 B-8, with a unique reverse not used for any other variety. Perfect dies. The reverse has a few raised die lines and flaws. Among these is a prominent die line in the field below left side of E in UNITED. From our sale of June 1988, Lot 98. |
