Aesthetically pleasing with light silver lustre and bright gold toning. Splashes of blue and lilac are noted along the borders. Sharply struck with choice surfaces. Very faint hairlines are visible upon close inspection. The reverse die used for this variety was first used in 1824. Just one finer coin is listed in the JRCS census among 11 examples (10 were recorded with none listed for the Logan Collection). This is from the obverse of 1828 B-1, 2, and 3. The reverse is the same die earlier used for 1824 and 1825 B-1 quarters. Perfect dies. From our sale of November 1999, Lot 1197. |
