Considerably worn with light gray surfaces and splashes of dark steel toning.

Reverse rim break covering UNITED. Only the left half of U and right half of D remain visible. This is the terminal die state and was discussed by Bill Bugert in Volume 1, Issue 3 of the Journal. Extremely rare die state.

A note about 1827 quarter dollars. Russ Logan did not own an example of this date. These are rarities that only exist in Proof. Although the Logan Collection contains a few Proof examples in other denominations, those other coins are not from Proof-Only years. Two varieties of 1827 quarters are known, one called an original, the other a restrike. The absence of an 1827 quarter dollar, does not, in our opinion, diminish the importance of his accomplishment.

Purchased October 1998 from Chris Pilliod.
