Light grayish brown surfaces with hints of iridescent toning. A few typical circulation marks are present on both obverse and reverse. Only one finer coin is listed in the JRCS census. This is a very scarce variety with few high quality examples known. An important opportunity if you have not acquired this variety for your collection.

The recorded mintage for the year was 168,000, and certainly included some coins dated 1824. Three overdate varieties are known from two obverse dies and three reverse dies. The reverse of this variety was earlier used for 1823 and 1824 quarter dollars. The two obverse dies are characterized by three different overdate descriptions resulting in much confusion. We invite the reader to reference our April 1997 catalogue of the Eliasberg Collection where we provided detailed descriptions and photographs.

Perfect dies.
