Highly attractive with pewter gray surfaces and considerable green, gold, and iridescent toning. A few very faint scratches are noted on the obverse. Just this one variety was minted with the 1824 overdate, and examples are hard to locate today. According to Mint records, there were no quarters struck in 1824. This is almost certainly part of the 1825 coinage. The reverse die was earlier used for the 1823/2 rarity, then reworked prior to production of this marriage. Perfect dies. Purchased November 1979 at a Detroit, Michigan coin show. |
