Very light pewter gray with subliminal gold toning. Ever so lightly cleaned with microscopic hairlines. A very pleasing example for the date or type collector. This obverse die was used to strike both varieties of 1822 quarter dollars. The reverse is unique to this variety. According to Mint records, 64,080 quarters were minted in 1822.

Russell Logan has described this as having "reverse dentil tracks." A short, slightly curved segment of dentils appears at center of the reverse, from top of the left wing to the eagle's neck. A specific explanation of this feature is not immediately evident, however, it may be some type of double striking or other unusual phenomenon during the coining process. It is our understanding that this was one of Russ Logan's projects for further study.

Perfect dies.
