This is a lovely example with deep gray and iridescent toning over satiny lustre and slightly reflective fields. A few trivial abrasions are noted including two short scratches on Liberty's cheek. A sharp impression with nice centering and full borders. Considered a common variety. Although 19 examples are listed in the JRCS census, this coin is tied for finest. This is the obverse of 1821 B-3 and B-4. The reverse die was also used for 1820 B-2 and B-5.

Perfect obverse. The reverse has a short crack from border to upright of E in UNITED.

Purchased November 1982 from William Brutsche. The late Bill Brutsche was proprietor of Maple City Coins in Norwalk, Ohio and actively handled early silver material including Capped Bust coins.
