Sharpness slightly finer, however, cleaned with very light gray surfaces. A few light scratches are present in the fields. This is a very scarce die marriage. This example ranks fourth among 15 coins recorded in the Quarter Census. Obverse die of B-5, 6, and 7. Reverse die of B-7 and 9.

Lightly cracked through the left upright of N.

This die marriage and remarriages of the same die pair were discussed by John W. McCloskey in "A Remarriage for the 1818 Bust Quarter" appearing in Volume 14, Issue 1 of the John Reich Journal. Early die states were minted before the Browning-9 variety while late die states were struck after the B-9 coins.

Purchased March 1976 from Don Frederick.
