Deep steel blue and iridescent toning over satiny lustre. The obverse has light surface marks. This is the finest of 17 coins listed in the Census. A very scarce die marriage and considered rare in Mint State. This variety was unknown to Valentine, and first described by Walter Breen while cataloguing Lot 449 of New Netherlands' 53rd auction.

Previously certified MS-62 by NGC.

Third use of obverse 3 and the second use of reverse JJ. The obverse has rough flowlines around Liberty's mouth and chin. The reverse has peripheral flowlines with weakened dentils. Several very short peripheral die cracks connect tops of some letters to the border.

Purchased October 1994 from Jerry Farrington.
