Russell Logan discovered this variety in 1980 with publication by David J. Davis in his "Early Half Dimes: Observations and Discoveries," a paper presented at the 1986 ANS Coinage of the Americas Conference and subsequently published in America's Silver Coinage, 1794-1891, including text of all papers presented at this event.

The second use of obverse 1 and the second use of reverse T. Obverse and reverse dies have minor clash marks.
