Fully lustrous with blue and iridescent toning. A highly attractive example. Described by Stack's as Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Only two finer examples of this variety are recorded in the Census. This is almost certainly the finest known of this extremely important late die state. The obverse is very weak at the date, a direct result of the reverse die state described below.

Fourth use of obverse 4 and the ninth use of reverse U. Very light obverse clash marks at Liberty's ear. The reverse has several minor die chips and die cracks. Most important is a very large retained cud from border to scroll, obliterating second T of STATES and severely weakening ES OF A.

From Stack's sale of September 1999, Lot 601.
