Logan-McCloskey Plate Coin, Page 184. Deep steel gray surfaces with very faint iridescent toning. Sharply struck and attractive. A scarce die marriage generally found in lower grades. Unknown to Valentine, this variety was first recorded by Walter Breen in Lester Merkin's sale of September 1970, Lot 239.

Third use of obverse 4 and eighth use of reverse J. Both obverse and reverse dies were retired from service after producing this marriage. Weak border details with flowlines in from the obverse border toward the stars. The reverse has several minor die chips within various letters. Very weakly defined clash marks are visible in the fields.

Purchased October 1994 from Jerry Farrington.
