Pale gray surfaces with deep steel blue toning over most of obverse and reverse. Weakly defined at upper obverse and lower reverse. Just seven examples of this variety were recorded in the Half Dime Census with two finer. This is a very rare variety that was not discovered until 1975 by John Marker. The discovery was first reported by David Davis in his 1986 Coinage of the Americas Conference presentation. Second use of obverse 5 and the fifth use of reverse F. The obverse has very light die cracks through star 6, between stars 9 and 10, and from the upper hair curl into the right obverse field. The reverse appears perfect. Purchased February 1995 from American Heritage Minting at the Long Beach Convention. |
