Logan-McCloskey Plate Coin, Page 147. This deeply toned, prooflike example is very sharply struck with outstanding obverse and reverse details. Fully lustrous with golden brown and iridescent toning. A few trivial surface marks are consistent with the grade. This is a rare variety with few high-grade examples known. The present example ranks third in the Census of 14 reported coins. The die states and emission sequence (noted below) were the subject of an article by J. Alan Bricker in Volume 7, Issue 1 of the Journal.

Previously certified MS-64 by NGC.

This is the second use of obverse 4 and the first use of reverse E. This reverse was also used with LM-7 and LM-8. The emission sequence is: LM-6.1, LM-7.1, LM-6.2, LM-7.2, LM-8, LM-6.3, LM-7.3. The obverse is cracked across the face to drapery, very slightly heavier than on the previous lot.

From Heritage's 1994 ANA sale, Lot 6324.
