Very slightly rough surfaces with deep gray fields and lighter silvery gray devices. This example is in a very nearly terminal die state and is extremely important as such.

The obverse has been lapped with weakened details at right. A semicircular die crack from the rim through upper loop of 8 continues through the lower hair curls, ribbon knot, to B and the rim. This essentially defines a retained cud over most of the left obverse, with the majority of detail remaining visible. Presumably this eventually developed into a full break, obliterating the entire left side of the die behind the head details.

Purchased in August 2000 at the ANA Convention in Philadelphia.
